I had a western room, which stank of smoke when I arrived late at night so I was a bit disappointed. The spa facilities were great but there was a lot of confusion with the bill when I checked out as we were unable to communicate with each other over what the list of charges were. Gero is nice as a rest stop but I was glad the festival was on in Takayama as this provided lots to do during the day.

The service was excellent. One of the staff members helped us figure out the phone number of another hostel for our next destination and another one drove us to the train station even though the shuttle service they had hadn't started yet. They go the extra mile to make sure you get the best stay possible. Facilities are good and the onsen has a great view of the river and mountains. Highly recommended.
