Great Hostel if you need somewhere to kip after a long days sight seeing. The breakfast is much appreciated and we didnt hear ofor have ourselves anyone having any trouble while getting the subway back in the evening (10-11pm)- just watch out for the express trains! We would visit again, thanks for a great time :)

The staff are a mixed bag, the manager is really friendly and couldn't be more helpful, some members of staff were really rude. Essentially the hostel is really clean and the bathrooms are abundant and good but its not very sociable or conducive to fun. The kitchen was closed at 12pm two nights and is very basic (there isn't a kettle!) so its not really possible to cook anything exciting.

It was great staying here in the Harlem area. It's too bad that they do not have late metros. We had to walk from somewhat a bad area back to this hostel. Other than this, it was all good.

We had the following negative experiences with this hostel:-
a) We had to pay $20 more than we were told we would because of "city taxes".
b)Despite the outside temperature being well below zero our room was ridiculously hot and there was no way of adjusting the temperature other than wasting energy by opening a window.
c) The heating system was very loud. There were hissing noises almost all the time and occasional loud banging sounds. These meant we got little sleep.

felt very homely. nice small hostel that we returned to when another reservation fell through. didn't feel unsafe in neighbourhood- a bit far from time square at times but a real sense of community from knowing all those staying at the same time as you- nice place to stay over christmas

Neighbourhood maybe dangerous at night. The place is quite loud all the time. Cute cats.

Great place, but the management need to FIX THE DANGEROUS heating system. I woke one night to find boiling hot steam gushing out of the radiator 5 inches from my head, was told this is ongoing problem Management need to put their hands in their pocket and sort this out. V noisy but hey it's a hostel - take earplugs!! other than that a cool place, recommended, providing heating is fixed.

Nice hostel! Easy to get to on subway. Inexpensive for NYC. They are honest and do everything that is advertised for. Nice place!
