Sangaste Castle Hostel in South East Estonia

The castle of Sangaste was built in 1881 by one of the most educated German landlords, a Finnish citizen named Count Friedrich Georg Magnus von Berg. The castle was designed by Otto Pius Hippius. It is similar in design to Windsor Palace and has 99 rooms, each room with unique windows. The castle now serves as a seminary, conference centre, museum and hostel. We offer accommodation in rooms sleeping one to four people, with WC, shower and sauna in the corridor. Sauna and breakfast ara available at an extra charge.You will be staying in the beautiful surroundings of Sangaste's parks and lakes.The main hall is designed in British style with a dark high ceiling and oakwood walls. The fireplace is original. On the right side are the initials and measurements of all the children who were brought up in the castle. You can see the old leaden window frames in this room. Next to the hall is kitchen. The Spanish Hall is designed in Maori style, with a very interesting ceiling and recesses/alcoves by the sides. Originally the room was meant to be a workroom for Count F. von Berg. One of the recesses/alcoves hid a secret passage way leading into the basement and straight to the Count's workroom. We would like to invite you to visit this enchanting place. Our bar is open every day from 9 a.m to 8 p.m and catering is available every day from 12 to 6 pm. In the summer there are frequent concerts and theatre productions in Sangaste.
