Welcome to Hostelling International - South Algonquin Backpackers, an established hostel run by travellers, for travellers. Relax and enjoy your stay in the comfort of our unique century-old frontier hotel. Leave the tourist rush behind and take a step back into Algonquin's history.We are located in the heart of the Algonquin Highlands, surrounded by lakes, forest and unspoiled scenery on the edge of Algonquin Park, but don't expect to see hordes of camera-toting sightseers or lines of buses and campervans. Our tiny village of Maynooth (population 200) is still very much 'off the beaten path'! For those travelling without vehicles, we are conveniently located on a Greyhound bus route, and once you have arrived we offer all sorts of Algonquin daytrips and shuttles with options to hike, bike , horseback ride, kayak and canoe, or we can set you up for an overnight canoe trip or camping adventure. We guarantee good equipment and the best rental rates! In the evening unwind and mingle over some drinks in our licensed pub or make use of our guest kitchen, pool table, satellite TV, laundry, internet or large book exchange.Don't be shy about asking for advice on Algonquin or for travel tips in general. We love to talk travel!Please note that our rates quoted here are for Hostelling International members. Non members pay an additional $2.85 CAD per night for a dorm bed or $3.64 per night for a private room.We have allocated only a few of our beds for online bookings.
