Grundarfjörður Hostel is located in a small and picturesque fishing village surrounded by amazing mountains, and the town itself is the most centrally located on the Snæfellsnes peninsula; its strategic location makes it an ideal stop from which to explore the beautiful landscape of this area characterized by majestic mountains, diverse birdlife, waterfalls, lava fields, lovely beaches, open sea and the well known Snæfellsjökull. Grundarfjördur Hostel was originally composed of a double storey red house, but it has recetly expanded to include other buildings in town. Some of the rooms offer private facilities. The reception remains in the original address of Hlíðarvegur 15, and it is open from 16:00 till 21:00pm in the summer, except if differently arranged.Bed linen and towels are available for a small extra fee that is not included in the price.Despite the relaxed atmosphere there is a multitude of activities and services available. The Hostel is a stone's throw from the swimming pool and a few minutes' walk will take you straight into the magnificent mountains surrounding the town. Other than strolling around and watching the boats land fish at the harbour, visitors can go golfing on one of the finest 9-hole golf courses in the country, horse-riding, bicycling, hiking, fishing, mountain-climbing, scree-running and swimming, or just hang out in the hostel garden with a cold drink and enjoy the all-night summer sun.There are also snowmobiling and boat trips available in surrounding areas during the summer.Services in Grundarfjordur include two banks (including cash dispensers), two restaurants, a supermarket, a petrol and service station (also the local bus stop), a state alcohol shop, garage and tyre service.
